Apple would begin selling the iPhone with Verizon ending the AT&T exclusivity

Strong competition in the smartphones market have caused Apple start planning to release its iPhone to Verizon ending the exclusivity that had AT&T.

The sale of Verizon wireless plans would begin to give the first months of 2011.

This measure also seeks to counter the progress that have been taking the smartphones with the Android operating system.

In the United States actually AT&T has 38% of smart phone subscribers, while Verizon has 26.8% so this move will allow Apple access to a whole new market, but I guess AT & T will also open to offer its subscribers smartphones with the Android system.

The Wall Street Journal, said about it:

“Apple plans to begin mass producing the new iPhone by the end of the year, and it would be released in the first quarter of 2011, these people said. The phone would resemble the iPhone 4 currently sold by AT&T, but would be based on an alternative wireless technology used by Verizon, these people said.

The new iPhone spells the end of the exclusive arrangement that AT&T has had since 2007, when Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs introduced the original iPhone. Since then, the iPhone fueled much of the AT&T’s growth.”

I am sure that soon we will hear news from AT&T, maybe new wireless plans or offer with the objective to retain its clients.
